For submission and review, Microsoft Word is the acceptable manuscript file format. Do not submit your manuscript in PDF format.
Use Calibri 12-point font size, double-space text, and leave right margins unjustified (ragged). The manuscript may be no longer than 25 pages (not including reflection section) and pages must be numbered.
Include a title page, abstract, introduction/ literature review, research methods, results, discussion, conclusion, references, reflection on the research experience, and as appropriate, graphics (figure legends, tables, and figures). Specific formatting of these components will vary depending the field of the author.
Start each of these sections on a new page, numbered consecutively, beginning with the title page. The maximum page limit of manuscript including all aforementioned components except for the reflection is 25 pages.
The title page should include manuscript title, a word count for text only (e.g., not including abstract or references), and the full names and affiliations of all authors (school and department).
The abstract should be no more than 200 words and give an overview of the importance and objectives of the study, basic experimental design, and main results and conclusion of the work. Immediately after the abstract, provide 6 keywords, and avoid general terms and multiple concepts (avoid, for example, “and”, “of”). These keywords will be used for indexing purposes.
Citations in the text should follow the referencing style used by the American Psychological Association. Refer to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Sixth Edition, ISBN 978-1-4338-0561-5, copies of which may be ordered from:

References should be arranged alphabetically. More than one reference from the same author(s) in the same year must be identified by the letters ‘a’, ‘b’, ‘c’, etc., placed after the year of publication.
A personal reflection on the author’s research experience is required for acceptance of article into the Carthage Vanguard. The reflection should be no more than 350 words and may include, but is not limited to, discussions of the importance of undergraduate research, how the experience facilitated growth as a person, why he/she pursued a research experience in that specific area, ultimate career goals, etc.
Please do not insert any graphics (schemes, figures, tables etc.) into the body of the document. All graphics and associated legends should be on the last pages(s) of the manuscript. The author must note where graphic belongs in the body of the text by listing the graphic name in brackets. The Carthage Vanguard staff will format the graphics appropriately in the article upon acceptance.
