The Tower Initiative

Outdoor Spaces

The impact of living beside Lake Michigan, one of the world’s largest freshwater lakes, cannot be overstated. Our students find the sights and sounds of the lake restful and soothing during difficult times, inspirational and motivating in their personal and academic growth, and memorable when they graduate and reflect on their days at Carthage.

Fresh air. Fresh water.
Fresh outlook.

Outside, The Tower offers:

  • Patio seating
  • Built-in fire pit
  • Sand volleyball court
  • Grass courtyard
  • Panoramic views

Taking advantage of the lake and what it offers is an essential part of residential life on campus. The Tower is designed with carefully planned outdoor spaces that foster a sense of community among students, faculty, and staff.

Outside the east entrance, facing Lake Michigan, designs feature patio seating, a built-in fire pit, pedestrian walkways, and a new sand volleyball court. An expansive grass courtyard is designed for both casual gatherings or larger concerts and events. All of these spaces provide panoramic views of the lake.

The west (main) entrance, facing Campus Drive, will include a drop-off circle for vehicle traffic. Both sides will incorporate green space, accentuating the campus’ natural beauty.
