Carthage College Faculty Meeting Minutes
April 7, 2011
CALL TO ORDER
Provost Rivera called the meeting to order at 11:46 am.
Pastor Stevens led the invocation.
Provost Rivera congratulated ten colleagues who became tenured this past year and five who will be on sabbatical for part/all of next year.
Rom Maczka briefly shared his thoughts on the status of the Senate.
Aaron Trautwein announced the slate of candidates for election to the Personnel and Tenure Committee & Quality of Life Committee. Faculty voted by paper ballot.
Rom Maczka presented a motion to revise the Academic Senate Resolution. There was discussion. A motion was made to amend the wording related to the Provost-Chair collaboration. The motion failed. The revisions to the Academic Senate Resolution carried.
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES
Budget and Compensation
Pascal Rollet announced a forum on faculty salary to be held the first Thursday of May at 11 am.
Quality of Life
Martin McClendon and Tom Powers announced a successful Student Academic Travel Grants program for Spring 2011. The Student Design Competition deadline is soon. There is a Family and Staff Resource page on the website under Carthage Groups. The Faculty Research and Development Grants deadline is approaching. The 2011 Quality of Life Enhancement Award goes to Michael McShane and Seemee Ali.
Curriculum Planning Committee
Herschel Kruger moved to pass the J-Term classes as a bloc. Seconded and motion carried. Kruger moved to pass the catalog courses as a bloc. Seconded and motion carried. Kruger moved changes to the Fine Arts curriculum and new courses as a bloc. Seconded and motion carried. Topics courses presented for information only.
Approval of Minutes of September 3, 2010
Provost Rivera moved to approve the minutes. Motion carried.
Carthage Symposium Oversight Committee
Matt Borden presented the results of a Carthage Symposium online survey.
Greg Baer, Dennis Munk, and Dana Garrigan reported for CADRE. Dana Garrigan thanked everyone for participation in Assessment Day. Dennis Munk announced some upcoming CADRE events. Greg Baer updated the faculty on preparations for reaccreditation.
Provost Rivera: Bookstore requests that faculty communicate which books they will assign for their courses, to comply with federal law.
Provost Rivera stated that the Celebration of Scholars will take place on April 29 in the Tarble Arena.
Erik Kulke announced the All-Carthage Golf Outing.
Isabel Rivera invited colleagues to attend the International Friendship Society Dinner.
Matt Borden said that the J-term Trip Fair will be held on April 13.
Herschel Kruger announced the spring musical performance, Cabaret.
Richard Sperber congratulated Sarah Cyganiak on achievement of Ph.D.
