ARTHAGE COLLEGE FACULTY MEETING MINUTES
September 1, 2006
Dean Piepenburg called the meeting to order at 9:11 a.m.
Harvard Stephens delivered the invocation.
Mark Miller’s appointment as faculty secretary was announced.
Minutes of the meeting of May 4, 2006 were approved as written.
CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT
President Campbell addressed the faculty about several items of interest. In the coming school year, President Campbell will attend two faculty meetings each semester and also hold informal faculty discussion sessions.
ANNUAL ADMISSIONS REPORT
Brenda Poggendorf reported that the Freshmen class will have 658 students arriving on campus. She said we are expecting 2,200 full-time students on campus this semester. The retention rate for last year’s freshmen class was 76%.
INTRODUCTION OF NEW COLLEAGUES
Department chairs introduced the additions to this year’s faculty. Administrative heads similarly introduced their new staff members.
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES
Executive Committee chair, Matt Zorn, introduced the members of the FEC.
Christine Rener/Dan Miller - advised faculty of new faculty development tools, website and surveys. A guide to writing federal grants is being established.
Leonard Schulze - reviewed the role of the ELCA and how it relates to Carthage. He made the faculty aware of the ELCA social statements and requested faculty participation in the draft of the ELCA education social statement.
Judith Schaumberg - announced the Department of Education has a certification review in 2007-2008.
Temple Burling - announced that two Heritage in-service meetings will be held this fall.
Dave Brunn - announced a senior survey from the Registrar will be produced to highlight unmet requirements needed to graduate.
Aaron Trautwein asked for support for the upcoming United Way Campaign.
