September 2, 2005
Dean Piepenburg called the meeting to order at 9:15 a.m.
Harvard Stephens delivered the invocation.
Bob Grant’s appointment as faculty secretary was announced
Richard Heitman’s appointment as Parliamentarian was announced.
Minutes of the May 5, 2005 meeting were approved as written.
CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT
President Campbell addressed the faculty about several items of interest.
ANNUAL ADMISSIONS REPORT
Brenda Poggendorf reported that the Class of 2009 will have 600 students arriving on campus. She said that we are expecting 2150 fulltime students on campus this semester. The retention rate for last year’s freshman class was 76%.
INTRODUCTION OF NEW COLLEAGUES
Department chairs introduced the additions to this year’s faculty. Administrative heads similarly introduced their new staff members. Dean Piepenburg announced that Kevin Morris has been named The Klingenmeyer Distinguished Professor in Chemistry.
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES
Executive Committee chair, Matt Zorn, reported that the Executive Committee had established as its priority the mission to oversee the 2010–2015 Faculty Strategic Plan.
Christine Rener gave a brief report on the New Faculty Development Program.
Gary Williams discussed the upcoming College Success Seminars (CSS) for incoming freshmen.
Julio Rivera reported on new efforts to enhance Quantitative Reasoning across the Curriculum.
Leslie Cameron announced a six session faculty colloquia in the Social Science Division.
Aaron Trautwein asked for support for the upcoming United Way Campaign,
