CARTHAGE COLLEGE FACULTY MEETING MINUTES
November 3, 2005
Dean Piepenburg called the meeting to order at 11:50 a.m.
Harvard Stephens delivered the invocation.
Minutes of the October 6, 2005 meeting were approved as written.
CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT
President Campbell addressed the faculty about the Trustee vote to retain the nickname Red Men, but as two distinct words, with no inference to Native Americans, reinforcing the College’s historic use of that nickname. The logo has been redesigned to remove the two feathers and alter the color scheme.
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES
Matt Zorn moved for the FEC that “The Faculty endorses the faculty strategic plan, “Carthage in the Years 2010-2015: Faculty Strategic Plan,” and instructs the Faculty Executive Committee to send this plan to the College Board of Trustees.” The motion passed by written ballot.
Lynn Loewen announced that the annual “Aims of Education” conference would be held November 4, 2005 at 10:30AM with Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes as the main speaker.
Harvard Stephens announced the second Journey to Diversity Conference to be held at Carthage this weekend. More than 135 students and faculty from colleges and universities around the state are expected to attend.
Various announcements were made by John Quashnock, Neil Scharnick, Aaron Trautwein, and Marilyn Ward. Dean Piepenburg announced that Dr. Ben Schmidt had successfully defended his dissertation.
