CARTHAGE COLLEGE FACULTY MEETING MINUTES
May 4, 2006
Dean Piepenburg called the meeting to order at 11:50 a.m.
Chris von Dehsen delivered the invocation.
Minutes of the meeting of April 6, 2006 were approved as written.
CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT
Dean Piepenburg announced that the last of this semester’s CONVERSATIONS WITH THE PRESIDENT would be with the FEC on Thursday, May 11.
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES
Matt Zorn announced elections for the Quality of Life Committee. FEC nominees were Wayne Thompson, Chris Blaine, and Peter Dennee. Nominated from the floor was Anne Shaw. Wayne Thompson, Anne Shaw, and Chris Blaine were elected by written ballot.
Budget and Compensation
Pascal Rollet announced that a Compensation and Benefits blog site would shortly be up, which will include copies of the salary slide presentation and answers to the questions submitted by the faculty. He announced that in fall 2006, all adjunct and faculty overloads will receive the same $2,400 per course and in fall 2007, it will rise to $2,600 per course.
Dave Brunn reported that there were 38 openings for the fall 2006 Carthage Symposium. He asked faculty to submit additional proposals for J-term and Spring 2007. He also asked for proposals for SPS.
Heritage Oversight Committee
Temple Burling reviewed the new texts lists for the revised Heritage. He announced the faculty workshop for Heritage will be Aug. 28th and 29th.
Writing Across the Curriculum
Mark Snavely announced the Writing Across The Curriculum workshop would be held on Aug. 29th through Aug. 31st.
Quality of Life
Annette Duncan announced the winners of this year’s Quality Life Award was The Nicaragua Medicine Fund, led by Pat Pfaffle, Roger Lindberg, and Julio Rivera.
Curriculum Planning Committee
Rick Matthews, for the CPC, moved revisions to the Computer Science Major. They were seconded and the motion carried. He moved changes to minors in French, German, and Spanish. They were seconded and the motion carried.
Rick moved adoption of a new Asian Studies Major. It was seconded and the motion carried.
Rick moved adoption of new Technical Production major and a Design Performance major. They were seconded and the motion carried.
Rick moved revisions to Studio Minors in Art and Art History. They were seconded and the motion carried.
Rick moved approval of a new Senior Seminar course in the Education major. It was seconded and the motion carried.
A series of announcements were made about upcoming activities in the month of May and the acceptance of Matt Borden’s dissertation.
