CARTHAGE COLLEGE FACULTY MEETING MINUTES
February 10, 2005
Dean Piepenburg called the meeting to order at 11:50 a.m.
Pastor Stephens delivered the invocation.
Minutes of the December 9, 2004 meeting were approved as written.
Greg Baer urged faculty members to participate in the interviews for the Lincoln scholarships.
CONVERSATION WITH THE PRESIDENT
President Campbell reported and conversed with the faculty. He introduced Chris Martin, the new CCIW Commissioner.
Chris Martin sketched Division 3 philosophy and structure. Unlike divisions 1 and 2, athletics is not a business and offers no sport scholarships. Athletics is meant to be education.
President Campbell described some innovations in the effort to solicit more financial gifts to Carthage.
REPORTS OF COMMITTEES
Jim Lochtefeld reported for the Executive Committee. He introduced Harvard Stephens and Lynn Loewen who reported on plans for a second Diversity Conference at Carthage to be held November 4-6, 2005. The faculty posed questions.
ASSESSMENT AND ACCREDITATION
Christine Rener announced that Carthage has been recommended for continued accreditation. Rousing applause.
Brenda Poggendorf announced that 3,721 applications for freshman admission have been submitted.
There were various general announcements by Anne Shaw, Michele Bonn, Yuri Maltsev, and Greg Baer.
