Carthage College is seeking a collaborative academic leader to serve as Founding Director of Nursing. The Founding Director will be charged with developing and overseeing a new BSN program that fully incorporates Carthage’s strengths in the liberal arts and aspires to serve as a national model for nursing in higher education.
Carthage’s goal is to develop a traditional, four-year BSN program that prepares professional nurses whose practice reflects a humanistic ethic and is scientifically based, technically competent, and highly compassionate. Additionally, Carthage is dedicated to educating students who can think critically, work well in teams, possess leadership skills, are life-long learners, and approach contemporary societal issues from a global perspective.
Ranked sixth in the country for short-term study abroad, Carthage offers a robust J-Term that provides a unique opportunity for the new BSN program to collaborate with established health-related programs in Nicaragua and Costa Rica, and the potential to seek innovative global educational opportunities for students. Carthage is also committed to secondary language study and recognizes the increased need for bilingual nurses, especially in Spanish. The Founding Director should possess a keen interest in these program components.
Our campus, a beautiful 80-acre arboretum on the shore of Lake Michigan, has a prime location in Kenosha, Wis., midway between Chicago and Milwaukee. Our vibrant academic community includes 150 scholars, 2,500 full-time students, and 900 part-time students.
This is a full-time faculty position with a distribution of effort across administration, teaching, and research. The Founding Director will report directly to the Provost. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
