Professor Erin Weber teaches biochemistry and general chemistry. She obtained her bachelor of arts in biochemistry from Reed College in Portland, Ore. in 2008. From there, she obtained her Ph.D. in molecular biophysics and biochemistry while studying the structural biology of the innate immune response to HIV under Dr. Yong Xiong at Yale University in 2014. Prof. Weber spent one year as a postdoctoral researcher studying the spectral properties of recombinant phytochrome under Dr. Rick Vierstra at UW-Madison. She then moved on to study the impact of Potato virus Y on potato physiology with Dr. Paul Bethke at UW-Madison as a postdoctoral researcher (2015-2020).

As a member of the Bethke lab, she combined her skills in biochemistry with a whole organism approach to understanding the effects of the virus. Prof. Weber’s research interests continue to combine both the whole organism and biochemical experiments with a focus on the protein-protein interactions between host and virus that facilitate systemic infection in plants.

Before coming to Carthage, Prof. Weber was a faculty member for the Bard Citizen Science Course (2018, 2019, and 2020), as well as teaching Biocore Cellular Biology course at UW-Madison (2019) and a seminar section at UW-Madison in the Biochemistry Capstone course (2017-2019).
