Give three words that sum up your internship experience.

Compelling, rewarding, and engaging

How did you learn about your internship?

I learned about the internship through Career Services at Carthage. I was introduced to the Great Lakes Career Ready Internship Program when I came to Career Services to seek help with improving my resume while looking for potential internship positions. My resume was then sent out to potential employers working with the program and was fortunate enough to be contacted by Dohmen.

Describe your internship.

Dohmen’s internship is a bit different from other internships within the program because we are working with multiple interns. Our duties include creating interactive modules to present to employees and future employees of Dohmen, ensuring that they receive the required company training and information.

What do you enjoy most about your internship? What are some of the challenges?

I really have enjoyed working in the team setting within the internship and seeing the end products after each team member masters their section. One of the challenges that I’ve encountered in the internship is having to learn some new softwares that are being used when creating the modules. Even though this is a challenge for me, I have enjoyed this experience, as it has taught me how to learn on my own and has sllowed me to work through those challenges.

How does your internship fit with your long-term career goals?

I think my internship is a nice stepping-stone for my long-term career goals. I certainly would love to work somewhere within consulting, marketing, or sales and feel that this internship has given me ample experience in each field, which is all I could ask for. I hope to have a better idea of what I want to specifically go into after the internship is completed.

During your internship search, how did you make yourself stand out to employers?

One thing I did during my internship search that helped me stand out to employers was present to them my completed projects from school in my portfolio. Many of them were impressed by my preparation and even though I didn’t have any internship experience at the time, they liked to see my in-class experience and work that could be applied to real world situations.

What did you find to be the most helpful during your internship search process?

I think the most helpful tool during my internship search process was the Career Services office. They really helped by sending my resume to many different employers and gave me the best chance possible to land an internship.

Do you have any tips to share with other students about your experience?

I would just recommend getting your name out there and networking. You never know what kind of opportunities await you just by talking to someone or handing your resume to a recruiter or employer. These employers see those potential position candidates that truly are working hard, putting forth the effort and determined to accomplish certain goals that they set out to achieve and most certainly will reward them because they can see the desire to obtain that specific position.
