Give three words that sum up your internship experience.
Educational, Intimidating, Inspiring
How did you learn about your internship?
“Skies Fall did the promotional athletic videos for Carthage and I liked what they produced and wanted to be a part of their company. I found their website and contacted them with my resume and interest of becoming an intern with no knowledge of whether they had the position on not.”
Describe your internship.
“My internship at Skies Fall is as a marketing coordinator, but that does not limit what I am doing. I am working with Skies Fall to help with the production of a TV Pilot in LA this April. A lot of what I do is very time based. I have different tasks every day that need to be done well and in a timely manner. Film companies have so many jobs that are all happening at once and I am here to help them with they details so they can focus on the bigger picture.”
What do you enjoy most about your internship? What are some of the challenges?
“I enjoy being immersed in a completely new atmosphere. I have taken film classes and learned about production, but now I get to actually live it and put what I have learned into action. It is hard though because I have not done most of the tasks I have been given before, so I am always nervous of making mistakes. Luckily my site adviser is a very great mentor and makes sure to be close when I have questions or need help in any way.”
How does your internship fit with your long-term career goals?
“In a long-term look, I hope to be working in film, but I haven’t decided where I want to be. This internship is teaching me all sides of the small film industry and how to be a part of each one of these roles.”
During your internship search, how did you make yourself stand out to employers?
“I think what made me stand out to Skies Fall was my passion. I contacted them about an internship that I didn’t even know had existed purely based on how interested I was in their company. I researched them and made sure at the interview that I had questions to ask them about their company, so they knew I was passionate about working for them.”
What did you find to be the most helpful during your internship search process?
“When looking for internships, I think was the most helpful is remembering not to limit myself to what I saw being offered. I reached out and make opportunities for myself!”
Do you have any tips to share with other students about your experience?
“Sometimes an internship can get to be difficult, but don’t be afraid to talk to your supervisor and get help with something you don’t understand.”
