Give three words that sum up your internship experience.

Enjoyable, Engaging, Rewarding

How did you learn about your internship?

“I found the Shedd internship on the list of internships on the Carthage in Chicago page when I was exploring my options for the program.”

Describe your internship.

“For my internship I help out everyone in the marketing office. Whether it’s big or small, I am always there to lend a helping hand! I do things such as send out emails, input data, reach out to potential partners, and come up with different promotional ideas. I also go to off-site events and help promote Shedd with giveaways and raffles.”

What do you enjoy most about your internship? What are some of the challenges?

“Every day is different. I walk into my office never knowing what kind of projects I will get to take on. I get to experience a lot of tasks and it is definitely helpful in learning the ropes of the marketing and promotional world. As for challenges, I do not have a lot of marketing experience, so I am not as familiar as I would like to be with some of the tasks I am asked to complete. It can be difficult sometimes, but I am learning as I go and every day gets easier.”

How does your internship fit with your long-term career goals?

“I am not entirely sure what I want to do when I graduate, so this internship is helping me expand my options and potential future career ideas.”

During your internship search, how did you make yourself stand out to employers?

“I have a lot of job experience so I think that was really helpful. I also tried my best to stand out by mentioning certain skills and interests. For my interviews I was very friendly and showed that I was extremely interested in the position.”

What did you find to be the most helpful during your internship search process?

“I met with a lot of different people and sought out any advice that I could get. Whether it be for my resume or interview tips, I wanted to be as prepared as I could.”

Do you have any tips to share with other students about your experience?

“Intern somewhere that you will enjoy and learn something from. You will get the most out of the experience if you can have fun and like what you are doing. Take advantage of the people you are working with and set up informational interviews or shadow them to learn more about what they do. It can be an experience of a lifetime so relax and take it all in one day at a time!”
