The Carthage Mock Trial has earned a bid to the Bell Tower National Championship in Greenville, South Carolina. Only 48 of 663 teams nationwide reach the Bell Tower Championship.

Carthage finished 7-1 at the Opening Round Championship Series this past weekend in Geneva, Ill. The team took second place in the 24-team tournament beating Notre Dame, Xavier University, and Miami University who was ranked No. 4 in the nation.

DaQuawn Bruce won an Outstanding Witness Award for the second consecutive tournament.

Team members include Cody Brant, DaQuawn Bruce, Sara Butler, Brittney Frederick*, Hailey McClung*, and Janina Spencer. Joining the team at ORCS and at the National Championship are Peter Dziewiontkoski and Hayley Smith. Coaches are Prof. Michael Phegley, Wynne Laufenberg and Rachel Harrison.

The National Championship will occur April 15-17 in Greenville, South Carolina. Team members will now be preparing a brand new case for the National Championship, and will be facing teams including Yale, Harvard, and Stanford.

Mock Trial is a course offered each fall for between 2-4 credits. Students interested in joining next year’s team should contact Prof. Phegley.
