Dr. Amy-Jill Levine of Vanderbilt University will speak at Carthage at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 10 in the TWC Jockey A and B.  Her talk is titled “Mistakes Jews and Christians Make about Each Other.”

She has been invited to Kenosha as part of an Interfaith Scholar Program, in which several local congregations and Carthage are collaborating. Her visit is also the featured event this semester for the Carthage’s Religion Department. All Religion 1000 students are encouraged to attend this event and take part in classroom discussions about Jewish-Christian understanding.

Amy-Jill Levine is a dynamic, witty, and exciting teacher. She is University Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies, E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Professor of New Testament Studies, and Professor of Jewish Studies at Vanderbilt Divinity School and College of Arts and Science.

Prof. Levine is a graduate of Smith College and earned her M.A. and Ph.D. at Duke University. She has also been awarded several honorary doctorates.

A self-described Yankee Jewish feminist, Prof. Levine is a member of Congregation Sherith Israel, an Orthodox Synagogue in Nashville, although she is often quite unorthodox.
