Duane R. Kullberg, retired managing partner and chief executive officer of Arthur Andersen & Co., was a Chapman Executive in Residence at Carthage for spring 2010. Mr. Kullberg was managing partner and chief executive officer of Arthur Andersen from 1980 through his retirement from the firm in 1989. Prior to 1980, he had served as managing partner of the Minneapolis office and in management roles in the Chicago and headquarters offices. He is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors and has been a public director of the Chicago Board Options Exchange since 1990.

While on campus, Mr. Kullberg met with business students in their classes, and participated in a panel discussion that was open to area high school and college students, as well as interested members of the community. On March 3, Mr. Kullberg was the featured speaker at a luncheon of the Carthage Business and Professional Coalition.

Panel Discussion: “The Future of the Audit Profession”

At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, Mr. Kullberg participated in a panel discussion titled “The Future of the Audit Profession.” Joining Mr. Kullberg were Schenck President Bill Goodman and attorney and financial columnist Jim Peterson.

Mr. Goodman joined Schenck in 2003 and is now the firm’s president. He was previously the managing partner of a “Big Four” firm’s Milwaukee office.

Mr. Peterson is a former financial and accounting columnist for the International Herald Tribune, and was a senior in-house lawyer and partner at Andersen Worldwide. He now writes the online blog Re: Balance, about auditing and the critical condition of the large accounting firms.

Dennis Tomorsky, chief executive officer of the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants, moderated the discussion.

Business & Professional Coalition Luncheon: “The Rise and Fall of Arthur Andersen”

On Wednesday, March 3, Mr. Kullberg was the featured speaker at Carthage’s Business and Professional Coalition Luncheon. He spoke on “The Rise and Fall of Arthur Andersen.”

The Carthage Business and Professional Coalition comprises the leading business, civic, professional and governmental leaders in southeastern Wisconsin. Carthage has regularly brought prominent speakers to campus for the Coalition’s luncheons, including business executives, government leaders, and well-known entertainers and sports personalities.
