The Office of Student Involvement is proud to announce that two new diversity training programs are now being offered.

  • SAFE Zone training is a 90 minute workshop designed to provide participants with basic competencies, awareness and skills to become aware and support the needs of Carthage’s LGBTQIA+ community. Participants will learn how to stand against homophobia and discrimination against any members of the Carthage community. Participants will also learn to recognize the motivating factors in society that are seeking to discriminate against LGBTQIA+ folks and how anyone can become a powerful ally for social justice and equity.
  • Embracing RACE is a 90 minute anti-racism workshop designed to educate the Carthage community on social and campus issues related to race, power, and privilege. Participants will learn about history, discrimination, identity development, the cycle of socialization, intersectionality, and how to work together to create communities committed to eliminating negative and inaccurate stereotypes about people of color, and how to dismantle systemic barriers that are disadvantaging and have disadvantaged people of color, and will commit to using this new knowledge and any privileges one possesses to work to create a Carthage community and a world that works for everyone.

Training sessions will be offered by appointment (for specific offices, student organizations, classes, etc.) and will also be offered on various open dates on a monthly basis.

Additional open dates will be announced soon. For more information, contact Roger Moreano at rmoreano@carthage.edu.
