Assistant Professor of Art, Tenure Track

November 03, 2017

The Art Department at Carthage invites applications for the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Art, Studio Art Foundations, and New Media, to begin in Fall 2018. An M.F.A. and an active exhibition record are required for this position. Reflecting the mission of the  Art Department, applicants will share a dedication to the service of a diverse and equitable community, literacy in a contemporary visual culture, the critical accomplishment in art production and exhibition, and a commitment to the development of an innovative foundation’s curricular model.

The hired applicant will coordinate and teach studio art foundations and new media courses and will play a crucial role in the development and implementation of a comprehensive curricular foundations model incorporating new media within a traditional foundations program. A typical yearly course load is three courses in each fall and spring semester plus one January-term course. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, student advising, critique and mentoring, managing art studios, ordering of supplies and equipment, attending faculty and committee meetings, service to the college and community and one’s own creative work, and scholarship.

Preference will be given to applicants experienced in coordinating and teaching in a studio art foundations program, with art practices in video, performance and digital media. Preference will also be given to applicants with knowledge in studio safety, including EPA, OSHA, and DNR standards. In addition, candidates with interests in developing and implementing curricula that address multicultural issues, that conduct scholarship in areas related to diversity and that have been successful working with a diverse body of students are encouraged to apply.

How To Apply
Candidates should submit an application as a single PDF document including a detailed letter summarizing how the candidate’s qualifications address the expectations of the position, a current curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching philosophy, an artist statement, three professional references with contact information, a link to artist portfolio and a link to images of student artwork. These links may be to an artist website or portfolios. Any questions or additional documents may be sent to Kimberly Greene, search committee chair, at ArtSearch2018@carthage.edu.

Review of applications will begin on Jan. 2, 2018, and will continue until the position is filled.
