Carthage Theatre’s annual Vet Night of the Arts is an evening of artwork created and inspired by those who serve. The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16 in the Wartburg Theatre. Both veterans and non-veterans are welcome! This year’s event opens with staged readings of new essays and drama from veterans at Carthage and University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Intermission features refreshments and raffle prizes, as well as a display of veteran-inspired artwork by Carthage students.

The support from this Crowdfunding Challenge will help to bring New York-based actor/activist Stephan Wolfert, presenting his one-man-show CRY HAVOC! In this heartrending one man show, Wolfert examines his own experience pre- and post-service, in the lines of some of Shakespeare’s most famous speeches. Through his own personal insights, he explores our societal neurosis of war, and questions, is there room for improvement in the way in which we reintegrate our Vets back into society? The program concludes with an open discussion with the artists.

Vet Night of the Arts is spearheaded by Carthage Theatre Department chair Martin McClendon, who was honored by the Association for Theatre in Education for his work with Veterans’ Outreach. Vet Night of the Arts seeks to bridge the divide between veterans and non-veterans by using the arts to communicate the veteran experience. It hopes to open a space for safe dialogue where both sides can begin to talk and build trust.

Carthage asks for your support in bringing Stephan Wolfert to our 2017 Vet Night of the Arts. Please go to www.carthage.edu/challenge to make a donation and/or learn more about the Crowdfunding Challenge. Thank you for your support!
