Over the summer, biology professor Angela Dassow presented part of her research at an international conference in Sweden on the Vocal Interactivity in-and-between Humans, Animals, and Robots (VIHAR). Her presentation focused on designing a robotic agent to track and record the vocalizations of hatchling turtles.

It was recently discovered that hatchling turtles are vocalizing with their mothers at nesting beaches, but as soon as the hatchlings leave their nests, we lose track of them and cannot continue to record their vocalizations. Hatchling turtles are too small to track using traditional radio telemetry methods, so these robotic agents will be sent after turtles to record them as they disperse. Proceedings from this conference can be found at http://vihar-2017.vihar.org/proceedings/

Great work, Prof. Dassow!
