Visitors are invited to attend a free opening reception for the “Subjectivity” student thesis exhibition presentation from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, at the H. F. Johnson Gallery of Art.

Featured artist Gina Sipka ’17 plans to attend the reception, and light refreshments will be served. The gallery is located on the campus of Carthage College, 2001 Alford Park Drive. No advance registration is required.

An interest in the visual language of abstraction is the starting point of her practice. Her paintings are inspired by the color schemes, textures, and shapes that are created in her handmade collages of abstract paintings completed by historic and emerging artists.

In her practice, Sipka has developed a personal meaning for each painting she has made. Although, she appreciates the subjectivity that her abstract paintings contain, allowing viewers to have their own reactions, emotions, and connections to her paintings.

Sipka is a senior double majoring in graphic design and studio art at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. She will be graduating from Carthage College on May 21 and will immediately begin a full-time job at Good Foods Group in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, as a graphic artist.

The exhibit runs from April 27 to May 6. Gallery hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. There are additional open hours on Thursday nights from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., as well as on Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
