Arielle Hay '17
All Stories

Arielle Hay ’17, a neuroscience and biology major from Saint Paul, Minn., has been selected to participate in the Intramural Research Opportunities program at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, a division of the National Institutes of Health. She will travel to Bethesda, Md., in February to visit laboratories and meet with biomedical scientists. The program offers participants the change to “find out what it is like to train as a researcher at a leading multi-disciplinary research facility.”

Last summer, Arielle participated in the Life Sciences Summer Undergraduate Research Program at the University of Minnesota in the laboratory of Dr. Walter Low studying the effects of Zika, a mosquito-transmitted virus linked to birth defects and neurological complications. She has also conducted research projects with Carthage neuroscience professors Denise Cook-Snyder and Daniel Miller, and is active as a tutor and laboratory assistant for biology and chemistry classes.

After graduating in May 2017, Arielle hopes to pursue laboratory work full time in the area of infectious disease, eventually earning a Ph.D. and becoming an academic researcher.

Congratulations to Arielle Hay on this opportunity at the National Institutes of Health!
