Carthage held the second Japanese Cultural Festival on Nov. 10, 2016.

The Carthage Japanese Cultural Festival is an annual event of the Japanese program that started last year. This year, on Nov.10, with generous support from the Modern Languages Department and the Division of Arts and Humanities, the event was another great success!

More than 60 audience members attended the event, including Carthage Japanese students and students from other fields who are interested in Japanese culture. Several parents joined the event, and they highly evaluated the event and our program. Approximately 30 Carthage Japanese students performed songs, dances, art performances, games, poems, and cultural presentations. Everyone enjoyed the Festival!

Congratulations to the following performers:

  • First Place (tie): “Yo-kai Gymnastics” by international students from Japan, Mako Yanai, Nazuki Watanabe, Takumi Nakano, Natsuki Ajito; and “Speed Paint: Bunny in the Moon” by Elle Maru.
  • Second Place (tie): The song and dance “If this Love Can Only Come Once” by Ashley Dey and Maggie Kowalski; and the presentation “Spring Water and Body Image in Japan” by Gabs Swangstue.

Many, many thanks to the Japanese TLEs Natsuki Ajito and Takumi Nakano; the hosts Gabs Swangstue, Lexi Gort and Andrew Igl; the Japanese service fellow Aliza Reitsma; and Administrative Assistant Cindy Welch. This event would not have been possible without their hard work and support.
