- 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3
All concerts are now full, but you can watch it live through the Carthage website.
Featuring the sounds of the majestic Fritsch Memorial Organ, the festival follows an age-old tradition of sharing the celebration of the birth of Christ through readings and music. Enjoy performances by the Carthage Choir, Carthage Women’s Ensemble, Carthage Chorale, Lincoln Chamber Singers, Wind Orchestra, and Carthage Philharmonic.
This year’s festival is the culmination of a yearlong celebration of the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s posting of the Ninety-five Theses. The theme is taken from a carol written by Martin Luther in 1534, and the concert will feature a newly commissioned work based on this carol by Jocelyn Hagen and Michael Dennis Browne.
The festival also features the annual Service of Light, during which the chapel is filled with candlelight. A beloved Carthage tradition, the Christmas Festival is presented in appreciation of the support of the community spanning more than 20 years. The service is a beautiful tribute to the spirit of the season and a culmination of the passion of Carthage’s talented students and faculty. The Christmas Festival is the perfect way to share in the joy of the season.
