J-Term in South Africa

J-Term

J-Term, or January Term, is a special month-long period of study in which Carthage students explore subjects outside their majors or minors, discover new interests, and test their creativity through classes held both on campus and around the world. It’s a month to experiment, create, and dream.

Students in the January 2016 World War II study tour pose on the deck of the British Navy ship HMS Belfast in London.

What’s the best way to learn about World War II, or explore the impact of the Cuban embargo?
How about the interplay of economics, law, and culture in Hong Kong? Or the biodiversity in a coral reef?
Ask students who have traveled during J-Term, and they’ll tell you: The best way to explore a topic is to dive right in.
See it — and experience it — for yourself.
