A $13.5 million renovation of the former Physical Education Center was completed in January 2009. The new Tarble Arena houses games and practices for basketball and volleyball teams. It also has an exercise physiology/athletic training rehabilitation laboratory, classroom space, seven locker rooms, and faculty and coaches’ offices.
The N.E. Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center, known as the “TARC,” includes a 16-lane swimming pool, indoor rock-climbing wall, 200-meter indoor track, 5,000-square-foot fitness center, baseball practice area, racquetball courts, and multipurpose courts for basketball, volleyball and tennis.
Koenitzer Aquatic Center
The Koenitzer Aquatic Center features a 600,000-gallon swimming pool — more than three times the size of the previous pool. It measures 25 meters by 40 meters, 10 meters shy of an Olympic-size pool. Balcony seating can accommodate 100 spectators. A 15-person whirlpool adds to the aquatic center’s appeal.
Jon Swift Sports Medicine Center
The 2,000-square-foot Jon Swift Sports Medicine Center is located within the N.E. Tarble Athletic and Recreation Center (TARC). Built in 2001, this facility is home to the athletic training staff of Carthage College. The sports medicine center and athletic training room provide a superior learning environment for the athletic training students by allowing them to practice their technical skills on the injured athletic population. This center consists of three offices, a hydrotherapy room, a rehabilitation center, an injury evaluation area, and a section for taping.
