Hazing

3 points*
Hazing is any act or conduct that is indecent, endangers the student’s well being or scholastic work, which is a condition of initiation, admission into or affiliation with an organization, regardless of a student’s willingness to participate in the activity. Such activities are prohibited. Any member of the campus community who violates such prohibition shall be subject to disciplinary sanctions, including the assessment of disciplinary points and may result in suspension or dismissal. Hazing is a violation of state laws and also is subject to criminal proceedings.

All organizations shall be held responsible for the actions of their members, associates, alumni or persons otherwise associated with the organization. The organization shall be subject to suspension and/or revocation of its official campus recognition and privileges by the Office of Student Life with or without the advice or consent of the governing body of that organization. This policy equally applies to all activities of all recognized or underground organizations including student orientation, all athletic teams and all honorary and professional student groups.

Violations of this policy include but are not limited to any action taken or situation created, on or off campus, to produce mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment or ridicule.

* Student Conduct Point System: Students and organizations are assessed points and sanctions for violations of Carthage policies. The point system is divided into three categories, based on the degree of severity of the infraction. Read more about the Student Conduct Point System
