Tips for Success
How can you do well in college? Follow these tips from Carthage students.
The Center for Student Success
The Center for Student Success, in conjunction with the Office of Student Life, provides students, faculty, and staff with a physical and virtual location to address issues that students face every day.
The Brainard Writing Center
The Writing Center is a free resource for Carthage students. The center is staffed by trained Writing Fellows who provide assistance for any written assignment from papers to lab reports, at any stage of the writing process. Students may drop in, but appointments are strongly recommended. Students may also schedule weekly one-on-one sessions with the same Writing Fellow to ensure continuing progress.
Free tutoring is available for all Carthage students. Tutors are peers who are trained and referred by academic departments. Tutors offer individual or group assistance by appointment.
Supplemental Instruction is a nationally recognized program designed to increase students’ academic performance in specially selected courses. Upper-division students attend these courses and then facilitate discussion/review sessions outside of class. Participation in the program allows students to be more active in their learning process.
Modern Language Alternatives
Students with specific learning disabilities can seek accommodations in modern language. The students may be allowed to replace modern language courses with alternative courses. This is an updated list of courses to be accepted as alternatives to the Modern Language requirement. Students will have to complete one course from each list or two courses from the “Cultural” list (two courses from the “Communication” list will not be accepted as fulfilling the MLA requirement).
