Faculty mentors

“The Carthage faculty are amazing! I love every single one of my teachers, and I can always count on them to help me out with any questions. I feel like they all love what they teach, which shows in the classroom.”

Favorite class

“My favorite class at Carthage so far would have to be Creative Writing. This class was just so amazing. My professor allowed us students the freedom to create any piece of writing we wanted. I was able to write about everything and anything. My favorite things to do in that class were the chapbooks.”

Toughest class

“My toughest class at Carthage was Literature and Gender. I found the class particularly hard because it had a lot of theory, which is hard to understand when first learning about it. It is definitely a class that I’ve had to do more work for, but thankfully I had a great teacher and she welcomed all my questions.”

Career goal

“After I graduate from Carthage, I hope to go to law school so that I can become an attorney. I want to either work in criminal law or family law, maybe even immigration law.”

Favorite spot on campus

“My favorite spot on campus is the Hedberg Library. I just love the Einstein Bros. Bagels there, and it is a great place to do homework.”

Advice for other students in your major?

“Students should consider being an English major because it is a major that not only develops your abilities as a reader, but it also helps you become a strong critical thinker. Also, the teachers in the English Department are all amazing! As a student, you can always count on the professors to help you in any way they can.

“Advice that I have for a future English major is — enjoy it while you can because it goes by fast. And be sure to keep up with all your reading and writing assignments because they sure do add up. Something that helped me is a planner and marking everything in my calendar. Being organized is key.”

What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?

“I never considered being a lawyer back then; I wanted to be a princess or a president. I just know that I am proud of how far I’ve come, and I know my 8-year-old self would be proud too.”

Scholarships

“I received a Faculty Scholarship, Multicultural Grant, Robert Todd Grant, and the Carthage Visit Grant. I feel so privileged and honored to receive these scholarships because if I did not receive them, I probably wouldn’t have been able to go to college.”
