Ashley’s supervisor, Jose Zapata, had this to say about Ashley, “In my short time at Carthage, I can contribute that Ashley displays a sincere interest in the welfare of the employees. She is dedicated to knowledge-sharing and is always eager to improve processes. I greatly appreciate her enthusiasm and practical approach to our everyday activities. She is always helpful, regardless of whether it is a payroll issue or not. She has been a great resource in the Business Office, offering to help when any assistance is needed and directing people to the correct person when she is not able to help.”

Get to know Ashley even more:

What do you like most about working at Carthage?

  • “The people I work with at Carthage are what make Carthage a great place to be. The Business Office has had some very difficult times and the only way we get through it is pulling together and helping each other. My coworkers are some of the hardest working, honest, caring people I know, and I couldn’t have gotten through this past year without them.”

What would people never guess you do in your role?

  • “People don’t realize we pay as many people as we do. We have 300 faculty/staff who are paid, about 100 hour employees, and about 900 students at any given time. And also, let’s not forget the many many adjunct faculty instructors that change every semester!”

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

  • “The most interesting job I’ve ever had was doing payroll for the Salvation Army and getting the opportunity to volunteer at Anne’s House, which is a center run by the Salvation Army Chicago Division to help victims of human trafficking in the Chicago area.”

Is there Anything else you think people should know about you?

  • “My faith in God is what gets me through each and every day. Through many life lessons, struggles, good times, and bad times, He has taught me to search for the joy in each situation I am faced with. Life isn’t easy, but if we trust Him and allow Him to work in our lives, then we will get through it, and we’ll be better for it!
  • Jeremiah 29:11 states: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
  • I believe God has brought me to Carthage to learn, to help, and to be a part of the bright future He has for this school. Carthage is a very special place, and I’m blessed to be here.”

Thank you, Ashley, for all you do for Carthage, our staff, faculty, and students!
