In order to strengthen the College’s cybersecurity posture, LIS has taken steps to implement 2-factor authentication (2FA) for VPN connections. VPN connections are common targets for cybercriminals as they allow for easy remote access to an organization’s network. The most effective protection for VPN is 2FA.

Beginning on March 1, 2FA for VPN will become mandatory. If you currently have VPN permissions, you will receive an enrollment email from Duo Security on Feb. 26. This email will contain a required link to enable 2FA for your VPN account. Here are additional instructions for enabling 2FA.

2FA for VPN is currently operating under an opt-in model. If you wish to start using 2FA earlier than March 1, please send an email to help@carthage.edu expressing your interest, and LIS will assist you.

If you have any questions relating to 2FA, please email Max McGrath.
