Beth DeLaRosby
All Stories

This month we are spotlighting the Head Women’s Swimming Coach and Aquatics Director, Beth DeLaRosby. Beth is currently in the middle of her 10th season with the Lady Reds Swim and Dive program, and they are 6-0 on the year so far! Beth was nominated to be featured by Ashley Hanson, Associate Vice President of Admissions.

Ashley had this to say about Beth, “Coach Beth is known as ‘Coach’ to more than just her swimmers. She is ‘Coach’ to fellow staff members, faculty, and to the overall general student body. For many staff and faculty members at Carthage, Beth is also known as a coach to their sons or daughters in swim lessons! ‘Coach’ is known for being on campus 15-16 hours a day, even in the off season. She can be seen working at graduation, move-in weekend, late night breakfast, admissions recruitment events, and so much more. Coach Beth is an excellent representation of what Carthage means to students and families. From the time she meets with a student during their college search until they walk across the stage at graduation, her ability to be a leader, role model, coach and friend deepens every day with our students.”

Get to know Beth even more:

What are some things you personally like?

  • “Summer! Life is a little less busy/stressful and I take better care of myself physically (more running, biking and enjoying the outdoors (e.g., beach).”

What don’t you like?

  • “People who stand next to the carousel at airports. If everyone takes a couple steps back and walks up when they see their bag, there would be enough space!”
  • “Also, when swimmers complain about the water being cold (it’s within 2 degrees year-round)”

How long have you worked at Carthage?

  • “9 years, 3 months, 11 days”

What is your favorite TV show, movie or book?

  • “Seinfeld and Shawshank Redemption”

What is your favorite place on earth?

  • “Wherever I can be with my family.”

What do you like most about working at Carthage?

  • “The athletes, especially my swimmers. Watching them successfully balance sports, academics, and everything else they are a part of is inspiring.”

What would people never guess you do in your role?

  • “I would say everything! However, it’s more surprising to people that I don’t get IN the water when I coach. In my nine years on campus, I’ve probably been in the pool no more than 15 times.”

Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesting job you’ve ever had?

  • “I’ve never had an unusual job, but once when I was a server at a restaurant, I would get to and from work by kayak. So maybe an interesting means of travel?”

Anything else you think people should know about you?

  • “When I was younger, I was on a jump rope team that would perform at schools in the Midwest and once traveled to Russia to perform.”
  • If you want to know anything else, Coach says, “just ask…my office is across from the rock climbing wall.”

Thank you, Beth, for all you do for Carthage and our students!
